High School At SouthField, students in 9th to 12th grade are encouraged to join a small group with their friends led by an adult mentor from church. This atmosphere provides students the opportunity to connect deeply with their friends and receive solid, spiritual guidance from a growing adult.

Why two approaches? Our experience has taught us that younger students enjoy an activity-based program, while older students are looking for something more. They want a relational approach to growth. This is not to say that younger students do not want friends or that older students do not want to have fun. We recognize that for all students their time is very limited. School, sports and other activities have these kids running all the time. We are trying to provide environments that are tailored to the specific developmental needs and learning styles of each age group. The dividing line of ministry to students seems to be the car! Once a student can drive, they can go anywhere and do anything (with mom or dad's permission, of course). Older students start drifting away from activity-based programs as they grow in their independence. They are free to go find their own fun. Younger students on the other hand, do not have the freedom to drive, so they appreciate a weekly, fun place to go where parents are glad to take them. Older students ask to be treated like adults. At SouthField we try to honor that request. We match them up with a mentor who will guide their growth, we give them time to connect with friends and we encourage them to learn by experiencing Sunday morning and serving others through the church. |
